Vietnam Certification — 2026 Guide
A practical overview of Vietnam market access for electronics exporters: which certificates you need, who regulates them, and how long it takes.
What Certification Does Vietnam Require?
Vietnam runs a mandatory conformity system, finalised as the CR mark. Whether your product needs it — and which authority — depends on the product type:
| Product type | Authority | Certification |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi / Bluetooth / RF products | MIC | CR mark (radio + EMC) |
| Wired ITE (computers, switches) | MIC | CR mark (EMC + safety) |
| Mains-powered appliances | STAMEQ | Safety certification + energy label |
| DC battery products (no RF) | — | No mandatory cert, Vietnamese label only |
| Products with lithium batteries | — | UN38.3 + possible local assessment |
The Authorities in Vietnam
MIC
Ministry of Information and Communication. Governs wireless, telecom and EMC. Testing against QCVN standards at MIC-accredited labs.
STAMEQ
Ministry of Science & Technology's quality authority. Governs safety and energy efficiency of mains-powered products.
Customs
Enforces Vietnamese label requirements. No Vietnamese label means no clearance — the most common reason for returned shipments.

| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Standard system | QCVN / TCVN (national standards, largely aligned to ETSI EN) |
| Core mark | CR (Conformity Regulation) |
| Local representative | Required (Vietnamese entity with import capability) |
| Factory inspection | Not required for MIC wireless |
| Certificate validity | Usually 2-3 years |
| Mutual recognition | None — CE/FCC/CCC do not exempt you from CR |
| Label language | Mandatory Vietnamese |
Common Mistakes Exporters Make
Assuming CE = CR
Vietnam recognises no other certification system. You need a Vietnamese test report from an MIC-accredited lab, no exceptions.
Ignoring band differences
Vietnam's permitted 2.4 GHz channels and power limits differ slightly from EU/US. Unsupported bands fail testing.
Skipping the Vietnamese label
Customs requires Vietnamese labels. This is the single most common reason shipments get returned.
Using outdated standards
QCVN revisions are frequent (some every 2-3 years). Certificates under old standards may not clear customs.
