Southeast Asia Certification FAQ
Straight answers to the questions exporters ask most — from a real certification practitioner, not a copywriter.
Common Questions
Do I need certification for each Southeast Asian country separately?
Yes. Each country has its own independent certification system. CE or FCC reports can speed up some markets (Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia) but Vietnam requires its own testing, and local approval is always needed.
Can I use CE or FCC reports for Southeast Asia?
Partly. Thailand NBTC, Philippines NTC and Malaysia SIRIM accept CE/FCC reports for transfer. Indonesia accepts international reports partially. Vietnam recognises nothing — testing must be redone at an MIC-accredited lab.
Is a local representative required?
Yes, in every Southeast Asian market. The certification applicant must be a locally registered company. Overseas manufacturers cannot be the applicant.
Which market is the fastest to certify?
The Philippines is often the fastest (3-4 weeks with an FCC/CE transfer). Singapore's ESER path for low-power devices is also very fast (1-2 weeks). Indonesia is typically the slowest (4-8 weeks).
Does Vietnam accept CE or FCC reports?
No. Vietnam recognises no external certification. Products must be tested at a Vietnam MIC-accredited lab.
Does a Bluetooth device need certification in Southeast Asia?
Yes. Every Bluetooth device needs radio approval in each market — MIC, NBTC, SDPPI, IMDA, SIRIM or NTC depending on the country. There is no meaningful low-power exemption.
